Joan and Leslie, an older lesbian couple, and their adult butch daughter, Kathy, are magicians. For thirty-five years, they have managed and performed in their own cavernous space, The Magic Hole. Unfortunately, business has been sinking, and they need to find new talent to bring in revenue. The town’s most celebrated saxophone duo, Moonlight Escapade, is angling to fill their Hole. For reasons that are initially unclear, there’s nothing Joan and Leslie like less than sax. Will there be a way to continue to run The Hole as a magic venue, or will these spirited women have to reluctantly acquiesce to the popularity of smooth jazz?
