The Leslie-Lohman Museum’s Project Space will celebrate the unveiling of “The Gurlz,” a body of works by photographer and artist James Smith. The weekend-long exhibition will feature over 100 images of transgender icons, Including Pose actress Dominique Jackson. Photos include Orange is the New Black’s Laverne Cox, Amanda Lepore, Allanah Starr, Yasmine Petty, Portia LaBéija and Buck Angel – to name a few. Smith’s series of photos explore the triumphs and tragedies of trans individuals in both the underground world and mainstream society.
