Keith Haring’s ‘Tuttomondo’ 1989 Documentary Premiere

December 20, 2025 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm EST

Free
Be the first to watch Keith Haring paint his iconic Tuttomondo, plus see his unseen Polaroids, digital paintings and animations of Pisa.

The premiere of the 1989 Keith Haring documentary, where we watch as Keith tours Pisa for inspiration, paints the mural, parties and gives an in depth interview – including the moment when he comes up with the mural’s title “Tuttomondo”.

Keith flew to Rome shortly after painting Tuttomondo, to create never-before-seen digital drawings and animations over images of Pisa using a state-of-the art Quantel Paintbox, over twenty of which appear throughout the documentary. Keith excitedly writes about the significance of his three day trip to Rome, just to use the Paintbox, to create what he called his “Affreschi Elettronici” (electronic frescoes) on page 330 of his Journal.

A few months later, Keith Haring sadly passed away and the video tape remained unseen in Italy until being rediscovered by fellow Paintbox Artist, Adrian Wilson.

As a tribute to Keith’s well known generosity, Wilson has rented the NYC LGBT venue where Keith famously painted a mural in the bathroom a month before heading to Pisa.

Q&A

After the screening, there will be a Q&A session with three special guests. moderated by Brian Vincent, who brings his expertise as the Make Me Famous film director and 80s downtown NYC art documentarian.

Tuttomondo’s Producer and guardian of the video for 35 years, Andrea De Gioia, is flying in from Italy for the premiere, where he will describe the mural process, including insights and anecdotes from the time he spent with Keith that he has never shared in public. As a sign of grattitude and friendship, Keith gave Andrea dozens of Polaroids he taken around Pisa, which will also berevealed for the first time.

Panelist Adrian Wilson will be bringing along an ultra-rare working Quantel Paintbox to show exactly how Keith created his Affreschi Elettronici and animations. He will illustrate stories from the actual Paintbox artists who sat with Keith at SBP in Rome as he produced this stunning unseen work and the “Pisa 89” poster, which will also be on display.

Keith’s friend and one of the founders of Club 57, Frank Holliday is a “Guggenheim Award” winning painter who helped shape the underground art scene in the East Village during the late 70s and 80s.
