Isle of Klezbos plays City Winery NYC Brunch

January 11 @ 12:30 pm - 2:30 pm EST

$25

Isle of Klezbos returns to play a City Winery NYC matinee! Doors open 11:30am with nosh & bar. Band showtime is 12:30pm. NYC-based ISLE of KLEZBOS approaches Yiddish musical traditions with loving irreverence and profound respect. The soulful, fun-loving powerhouse all-gal klezmer sextet has toured from Vienna to Vancouver since 1998. Blending neo-folkloric tunes, reimagined classics, and sound all their own, their “cutting-edge klezmer” (New York Magazine) is acclaimed as “rapturous and rollicking” (Los Angeles Blade). Featuring alumnae of Juilliard, Eastman, Berklee and Harvard, the group is renowned for soloing artistry from deeply grooving to rambunctious to ethereal, whether on 2nd Avenue swing and Yiddish tango, klezmer cumbia and boogaloo, art song, lullaby, or balagan. Their music has been seen and heard from HBO and PBS to CBS Sunday Morning and The L Word. Isle of Klezbos’ latest album “Yiddish Silver Screen” highlights the archival cinema devotion and far-flung imagination of drummer/bandleader Eve Sicular. Isle of Klezbos bandmates also had the joy & honor of performing with the late great Jill Sobule on her original “Music from Yentl” project, including songs they have lately performed in tribute to her memory.
