Don’t Call Me Young Lady

October 27, 2019

$45

Imagine: You are 80 years old. You have published over 60 young adult novels. Three marriages. Four children. Numerous affairs. You have lived a very full life. Why not retire?

Not Carolyn Meyer. Instead, she starts telling stories at The Liars’ Game in Albuquerque, NM. Then she does improv with people more than half her age. Next, stand-up. A grey-haired lady walks up to the mic and things come out of her mouth that leaves the audience wondering “Who is this woman and how can she say those things at her age?” They also laugh hysterically.

But why stop there?

Never having been on-stage before, she writes a one-woman show about the one thing that drives her crazy: being called “young woman.” And it turns out a lot of older women agree with her. A three-performance engagement turns into 18 sold-out performances as women come back with their friends and daughters bring their mothers. And then she’s accepted into the United Solo Festival! On October 27th, she will bring her life and her story to NYC.

Carolyn has lived a full life and it resonates with her audience. Like them, she doesn’t want her life to be diminished by the term “young lady.” Filled with frank, sexual humor and the stark, emotional reality of being a woman back in the day, “Don’t Call Me Young Lady” takes the audience on her journey to become herself (and to find a man–at 84–through on-line dating).

In short, you will find Carolyn to be unique, special, entertaining and definitely provocative. You can buy tickets at http://unitedsolo.org/us/2019-dontcallme/
