Brooklyn Pride Movie Night: Caribbean Queen

Movie title logo with the words "Caribbean Queen in Association with Caribbean Equality Project"

Caribbean Queen is an inspiring short film that follows the journey of Q (Ansi A. Rodriguez), a young Caribbean boy, who wants to become the Queen of the West Indian Day Carnival Parade. However, prejudice from family and the community threatens this dream and celebration of Caribbean culture. But with determination and the help of their bestie, Joe (Nimene Wureh), they may just make it to the Parkway!

Director Sekiya Dorsett proudly states, “We’re thrilled to share a slice of Flatbush, Brooklyn with viewers, honoring our lives as LGBTQ+ Caribbeans. We deserve to be safe, seen and celebrated.” The film uses the carnival as a symbol of transformation and liberation. This marks the premiere sneak peek of the film. With additional amplification, the film aims to engage the Caribbean diaspora in dialogue aimed at reforming colonial-era anti-LGBTQ+ laws that impact the lives of LGBTQ+ Caribbeans.

The team extends heartfelt gratitude to Executive Producers Marcello La Ferla, Staceyann Chin and Brooklyn Pride for their invaluable support.
