Because I’ve Been Told That’s Not What Girls Do

As part of a split bill, Because I’ve Been Told That’s Not What Girls Do is a short play about two friends who find themselves in a compromising situation and begin to question the intent of each other’s affections. When are affections more than moments between friends but moments between lovers? Can these affections still be among friends? This short play does not provide the answer to that, but it explores the many forms intimacy can take as it navigates through the discovery of queerness between black girls and women who thought against it because they were told that’s not what girls do.
