10th Annual LGBTQ+ Community Iftar

March 12 @ 6:00 pm - 9:00 pm EDT

RSVP

Since 2016, The LGBT Community Center has worked to be a safe and affirming space for all LGBTQ+ people, including Queer Muslims. In 2017, the Annual LGBTQ+ Community Iftar was co-founded by leaders of Caribbean Equality Project, Tarab NYC, SALGA NYC, and Muslim Alliance for Sexual and Gender Diversity, in partnership with the LGBT Community Center and the Commission on Human Rights. The event was originally established in response to the Trump administration’s ban on individuals from predominantly Muslim countries.

Theme: A Decade of Ummah

This year’s theme, “A Decade of Ummah,” honors 10 years of coming together in faith, fellowship, and radical belonging.

Iftar, the breaking of the fast during Ramadan, is a sacred moment rooted in generosity, gratitude, and care for one another. For 10 years, this celebration has created a welcoming, safe space for LGBTQ+ Muslims, families, friends, and allies to gather together in a gender-neutral prayer, share a meal, and uplift the beauty of the chosen and spiritual community through delicious food, education, storytelling, and exciting culturally responsive entertainment.

As we mark a decade of Ummah (the global community of Muslims bound together by faith or culture), we reflect on the resilience, love, and collective care that have sustained this tradition, while looking ahead with hope and intention. All are welcome to join us for an evening of connection, remembrance, and joy. RSVP as space is limited.
