Truth Social Post About “Transgender Mutilation” Gets Wording Makeover After Marjorie-Taylor Greene Rant
After Republican backlash, Trump recanted wording on a post that suggested he was okay with gender-affirming surgery for minors, a procedure that is rarely, if ever, performed, according to Harvard research.

On March 5, 2026 at 10:39 a.m., Donald J. Trump posted on Truth Social: “NO TRANSGENDER MUTILATION SURGERY FOR CHILDREN, WITHOUT THE EXPRESS WRITTEN APPROVAL OF THE PARENTS.” The post, part of a 5-point outline for his SAVE America Act, caused some consternation in Republican circles and prompted Marjorie Taylor Greene to declare that Trump had “crossed all my lines.”
Within ten minutes, the former congresswoman, who self-expunged from the Capitol earlier this year, took to X to lament. “I’m done. Absolutely done. The war is bad enough but giving into Democrats on transing children is enough to lose me forever.”
By 4:12 p.m., Trump’s post was taken down and replaced with other phrasing that did not include “WITHOUT THE EXPRESS WRITTEN APPROVAL OF THE PARENTS.”
I’m done. Absolutely done.

The war is bad enough but giving into Democrats on transing children is enough to lose me forever.
If the GOP supports transing minors with sick mentally ill parent’s consent, I’m registering as an independent.

It is unclear whether MTG’s rant about her Protect Children’s Innocence Act (passed in the House but unlikely to pass in the Senate) had influence over her former boss. “My bill was a reflection of Trump’s own executive order banning child trans surgeries and so called gender affirming care. Now Trump is reversing his stance???!!! What is wrong with him???” On the same day, she she also expressed support for Tucker Carlson, and took a stance unusual in the circles she frequents: “Trump is not America first, he is donor first.”
MTG was not the only conservative to express outrage over Trump’s handling of the fictional concept that there is an epidemic of minors undergoing “gender mutilation” – a construct of far-right imagination designed to rouse a base eager to wipe trans folks off the map. It should also be noted that minors almost always require parental approval when receiving gender-affirming interventions, such as like puberty blockers and hormone therapy.
Commentator Matt Walsh joined the chorus on X, saying, “The kids who are mutilated almost always have parental consent.” The “procedure is barbaric,” he wrote, showcasing his ignorance around actual studies, such as a 2023/2024 Harvard analysis that “found no gender-affirming surgeries performed on TGD youth ages 12 and younger in the year of study (JAMA does note, however, breast reduction for cisgender males with gynecomastia).
While there are several winners in the category of The Truly Uninformed, the gold for Clever Response goes to Rep. Thomas Massie (R-KY) who wrote on X: “His post transitioned.”
