Tig Notaro is officially developing a “hot lesbian” action movie with Justice League director Zack Snyder. The project is in early development, but Notaro has started sharing details about how the collaboration took shape and what viewers can expect from its premise.
She discussed the film during her appearance on Kara Swisher’s On With Kara Swisher podcast, explaining that the idea grew out of the surprising online reaction to her role in Snyder’s 2021 film Army of the Dead. Notaro, who was digitally inserted into the movie after replacing Chris D’Elia, said she hadn’t anticipated becoming a breakout figure among action fans.

“I go viral for being sexy in this film,” Notaro told Swisher. “And it was so unexpected. My phone’s exploding. I’m not walking around going ‘Oh my God,’ you know, ‘check me out.’ I was so confused. So I called Zack, and I said, ‘I’m hearing it from straight men, gay men, gay women, and straight women that they think I’m hot in this movie.’”
That response led to a conversation with Snyder that quickly turned into something more tangible. Notaro recalled pitching him during a Zoom meeting. “‘What if we just went for it and everyone’s a hot lesbian?’ He was like, ‘Oh my God, yes, let’s make that movie,’” she said. She added that she sold the concept with an imagined poster featuring the film title and the words “Hot Lesbian Action.” “That’s how I sold him on the Zoom,” she said.
The working title for the film is Deviants. Notaro described it as a period piece. “As of now, the movie is called Deviants, and takes place back in some old-timey days, like some closeted deviants,” she said. The script is still being assembled, and no additional casting or production timeline has been announced.

Notaro appeared on Swisher’s show primarily to discuss Come See Me in the Good Light, the documentary she produced about queer poet Andrea Gibson, who died earlier this year. The interview also made clear that Notaro is expanding her work behind the camera while maintaining ongoing roles in film and television.
As for Deviants, the project remains in development as she and Snyder continue shaping the script. We’re crossing our fingers for more details as the film moves closer to production.
