Spanish soccer star Esther González is entering 2026 with an exciting new title alongside her standout sports career: mom.
González and her wife, Estefanía Cruz, announced the birth of their first child on January 6, with Cruz sharing a series of photos from the hospital. The images included close-ups of the newborn, moments just before delivery, and early hours spent together as a family.
“On a cloud. @esthergonzalez THANK YOU. For putting the layer on you and for multiplying the love,” Cruz wrote in Spanish in the caption.

González first confirmed the pregnancy in August with a brief Instagram post featuring a sonogram and photos of her holding Cruz’s belly. The caption read simply, “January 2026.” At the time, the news arrived in the middle of one of the most productive seasons of González’s career.
The veteran striker is coming off a remarkable year with Gotham FC, where she played a central role in the team’s championship run. Her performance helped Gotham capture both the NWSL Championship and the inaugural Concacaf W Champions Cup, making González just the second player in team history to reach double-digit goals in a single season. She reached 10 goals in only 13 matches, the fastest pace ever for the team, and achieved four multi-goal games during the regular season.

And González’s success extended beyond club play. With Spain, she helped secure the UEFA Women’s Nations League title, scoring four goals during the group stage as the national team advanced to the knockout rounds. Earlier in the summer, she earned Golden Boot honors at the UEFA Women’s European Championship, scoring four goals during the tournament.
González is expected to return to competition later this month, with Gotham FC scheduled to compete in the FIFA Women’s Champions Cup, beginning January 26.
