Lady Gaga Confirms “Telephone” Sequel Is A Go

But will Beyoncé return?

For nearly 15 years, Little Monsters and the Beyhive have been eagerly anticipating the sequel to the iconic music video “Telephone.” Finally, Lady Gaga has officially confirmed the long-awaited sequel is happening, and teased Beyoncé’s return.

In her Vanity Fair lie-detector test, released Wednesday, Gaga was asked, “The music video for your song ‘Telephone’ said ‘To be continued…’ at the end. Will it ever be continued?” Hesitantly, Gaga replies with a yes. But, when the moderator asked when it would be released, she admitted, “I don’t know.” She followed up with, “Maybe,” and a cheeky smile when asked if we would see Beyoncé in the video. Thankfully, the lie detector confirms she is telling the truth.

Fans began speculating about the sequel after the Cowboy Carter teaser, released during the 2024 Super Bowl. In the teaser, Beyoncé is seen driving through an empty field in a taxi, which fans believe closely resembles the wagon scene from “Telephone,” when Beyoncé bails Gaga out of jail and the two go on a road trip. Fans note that both the wagon and the taxi are yellow and have fuzzy dice…Monsters and the Beyhive are nothing if not dedicated to the cause.

The 2009 renowned collaboration “Telephone” reached No. 3 on the Billboard Hot 100 chart and was nominated for a Grammy for best pop collaboration with vocals. This nomination is among several of Gaga’s accomplishments including winning 14 Grammy Awards, 2 Golden Globe Awards, 18 MTV Music Awards, and recognition from the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Gaga is set to release her 7th album “Mayhem” on March 7th, and displayed a series of tasteful Instagram posts detailing her track list including singles like “Disease” and “Die With a Smile” featuring Bruno Mars.

For those who grew up on Gaga, or love Mother Monster just as much as we do, the sequel to “Telephone” is long overdue. Though she hasn’t specified a timeline for its release, something is definitely in motion.
