Team USA Women’s Ice Hockey Is Still Undefeated
Team USA goes undefeated in the group round, beating their rival Canada 5-0. Laila Edwards becomes the first Black woman to score a goal for Team USA’s women’s hockey team, during Black History Month, no less.
Cory Theisse Becomes First US Woman to Medal in Curling
Team USA takes home the silver in mixed doubles curling, which makes Cory Theisse the first American woman to win an Olympic medal in the sport. But her journey for gold isn’t over. She joins Team USA on the women’s team. They won their first round-robin game against Korea but lost against Sweden. The team is still in it, so we’ll be cheering them on!
Team USA’s Ashley Farquharson Slides Into a Podium Slot
Ashley Farquharson returns to the Olympic Games after her debut in 2022 to win bronze in women’s luge singles. This is her first Olympic medal, and this win makes her the first American in 12 years to reach the podium for this event.
Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby Compete in Inaugural Women’s Double Luge Event
If you’re trying to picture doubles luge in your head, it’s kind of like high-speed spooning. For the first time ever, women have been allowed to participate in the event, including Team USA’s Chevonne Forgan and Sophia Kirkby.
Chloe Kim Wins Silver in Halfpipe, Second Only to Mentee
Chloe Kim, who won her first medal at age 17, is taking home some more hardware. Kim won silver in the snowboarding women’s halfpipe, becoming the first woman to medal at 3 straight Olympics in the halfpipe. She was beaten by only two points by South Korea’s Gaon Choi, whom Kim has mentored. Bronze was taken by Japan’s Ono Mitsuki, rounding out the all-Asian podium.
Freestyle Skier Elizabeth Lemley Wins Gold in Her Olympic Debut
Team USA’s Elizabeth Lemley scores gold in her first-ever Olympic debut in the freestyle skiing moguls event. In moguls, athletes combine technical turns, jumps, aerial manoeuvres, and speed while hurdling down a steep course full of bumps. Silver got snatched up by Team USA teammate Jaelin Kauf (her second straight silver).
Team USA Wins Bronze in Inaugural Women’s Team Alpine Skiing
Jackie Wiles and Paula Moltzan take bronze in the inaugural women’s team combined. In the final race to the podium, Wiles and Moltzan beat teammates Mikaela Shiffrin and Breezy Johnson by 0.06 seconds.
Jessie Diggins Becomes Winningest Cross-Country Skiing Athlete
Jessie Diggins sustained a rib injury in the Skiathlon, but she pushed through to win bronze in the 10 km cross-country skiing event before collapsing in pain at the finish line. “I need a new body,” Diggins said after the race. “Honestly, I think I’m the happiest, most grateful bronze medallist in the whole world. It’s been one heck of a painful week. Two days ago, I was like, I don’t know how I’m going to do this.” This is her 4th Olympic medal (the most of any cross country athlete) and her last Olympic Games.
