No one likes waiting at baggage claim, but Boygenius changed that for lucky travelers at Austin Airport on Tuesday. The supergroup comprised of queer girl icons Phoebe Bridgers, Julien Baker, and Lucy Dacus performed a surprise set as part of South by Southwest to those fortunate enough to be unsuspectingly idling by the bag carousel at the time.
“@xboygeniusx giving the best chill vibes this afternoon,” tweeted the Austin airport’s official account. “📍Baggage claim.”

The band performed songs including new their single “True Blue,” from their upcoming album The Record, and “Me & My Dog” from their debut EP Boygenius. Many of the crowd members waiting for their bags were journalists there to report on South by Southwest, and so this was an extra treat for them.
“Supporting artists and bringing live music to our terminal and to our travelers is in our DNA as the Live Music Capital of the World’s airport,” said Austin-Bergstrom International Airport in a statement to Rolling Stone. “We’re so thankful to the SXSW festival team and boygenuis for surprising AUS travelers today.”
The mega talented queer threesome spoke with Rolling Stone about their new music for a cover story earlier this year.
“There’s a realm in which I feel permitted to be ambitious in this band, in a way that I can’t for my own solo stuff, because it’s something shared with people that I love who are the greatest songwriters ever,” Baker told Rolling Stone. “I feel an uncomplicated pride about it.”
Boygenius will release their debut album The Record on March 31.
