Australia OKs Church Ban on Gay Foster Parents

A tribunal in Australia ruled that religious groups can ban potential parents from fostering children based on sexual orientation

Australian religious groups that receive public funds can now legally ban gay and lesbian couples from fostering children, after a landmark tribunal ruling.

The decision by the NSW Administrative Decisions Tribunal allows charities in Australia to discriminate against potential parents based on their sexual orientation. The ruling ends a seven-year battle for a gay couple whose attempt to foster a child through the group Wesley Mission Australia was rejected because of the Uniting Church’s stance against homosexuality.
