Assistant NY Attorney General Claims She Was Fired By AG Letitia James For Stance on Pediatric Gender Care

Glenna Goldis said Letitia James supports “transitioning” kids with puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery – and that since 2024, she’s raised alarms that providers may be engaged in dangerous consumer fraud.

In a post on X last week Glenna Goldis, (now former) Assistant Attorney General at the Consumer Frauds and Protection Bureau, claimed that she was fired by New York Attorney General Letitia James “for speaking out against pediatric gender medicine (PGM).” James, she wrote, supports “transitioning” kids with puberty blockers, hormones, and surgery.

“Since 2024 I’d been raising the alarm publicly and within NYAG that PGM providers may be engaged in a dangerous consumer fraud. James’s officials treated me like a pest.”

Goldis, who is a lesbian, wrote: “I tried to explain to NYAG officials that PGM, by its nature, targets children who defy sexed norms — whom studies show are more likely to be gay when they grow up. PGM can reportedly leave them with sexual dysfunction, chronic genital pain, and incontinence, among all sorts of other side effects. No one in authority at NYAG showed interest in the concern that PGM may be homophobic.”

It is not clear whether Goldis presented evidence to James with regard to alleged targeting of children. Goldis did note that while she was an attorney in NYAG’s consumer frauds bureau, the bureau did not work on anything related to PGM.

With regard to the concept of genital surgery, while the topic has served as a rallying cry in the far-right arena (and point of concern in some moderate circles), research points to little incidence of gender-affirming surgeries (GAS) among the younger set. Some data published by our most notable medical journals fails to even distinguish between 12-year-olds and 18-year-olds, the latter of whom are legal adults.

The title of one study by Harvard T.H. Chan School of Public Health (2024) speaks to the findings: “Gender-Affirming Surgeries Rarely Performed on Transgender Youth.” Harvard researchers “found little to no utilization of gender-affirming surgeries by transgender and gender-diverse (TGD) minors in the U.S. The study also found that cisgender minors and adults had substantially higher utilization of analogous gender-affirming surgeries than their TGD counterparts.”

JAMA published research in 2023 that looked at 48,019 patients who underwent GAS between 2016 to 2020; of those, 3,678 (7.7%) were aged 12 to18 years of age. This included facial and cosmetic procedures such as hair removal or transplantation, liposuction, and collagen injections – routines not unknown to many straight and CIS teenagers. It is curious that the researchers don’t appear to distinguish between 12-year-olds and 18-year-olds, children still developing versus physically mature adults. GO reached out to the Corresponding Author of the research and will report back with any response.

As for Glenna Goldis, she wrote that the NYAG accused her of engaging in “disruptive public speech.” Goldis assured the public on X that this isn’t true. “I haven’t disrupted the Democratic elite’s zombie-like devotion to PGM providers.”

The case Goldis appears to be trying to make: If Letitia James actually cared about “LGBTQ” youth, then she’d research “gender” drugs and learn what they do. “Instead she glibly calls the drugs “safe” and fires me for contradicting her.”

Goldis is reportedly in contact with First Amendment experts to advise on the issue of whether her constitutional rights (free speech) have been violated. At the core seems to be the idea that Goldis feels she has been punished for voicing an opinion that contradicts Letitia James’ legal position.

It is not clear whether Goldis’ job duties would have formally included investigating fraud in gender medicine, or whether she has produced evidence of actual fraud. One FTC document, entitled “The Dangers of “Gender-Affirming Care” for Minors,” noted that Goldis “has successfully prosecuted deceptive practices in sectors like for-profit education, debt collection, telecom, and bail bond.” The FTC language described her as a “gay rights advocate” who “publishes a newsletter about the transgender movement called Bad Facts.” (It also noted that the views on the topic shared by Goldis were done so in her personal capacity, not on behalf of her employer.)

The premise of Goldis’ substack: “Since the 1950s, healthcare providers have misled their patients and the public about “gender-affirming care.” Many of the patients are gay, autistic, or survivors of abuse. The “care” physically injures them. T, for the example, is anabolic steroids and causes pelvic floor dysfunction in 94% of women who use it. This newsletter examines the misbegotten, sometimes fraudulent movement for “transgender” rights from a legal and historical perspective.”

The AG has reportedly issued a statement to The New York Post confirming some prohibition around Goldis’ speech: “The Office of the Attorney General has rules and protocols for employees who engage in activities that can impact the work, operations, or integrity of the office.”

GO has reached out to AG Letitia James and Glenna Goldis for clarifications and data, and will update with any responses.
