Leaving behind a successful career on Wall Street, Michelle Kristel began working at In The Life Media
in 2002, first as a volunteer, and then as production manager, eventually becoming Executive Director in 2006. In the Life Media produces the public television documentary series, In the Life, which recently won
a GLAAD Media Award in the category of “Outstanding TV Journalism – Newsmagazine” for their segment Funding the Marriage War. “My career change from finance to social justice was motivated by the realization that the insidious nature and oppressive effects of homophobia I experienced as a teen in upstate New York remained, nearly twenty years later, persistent and pervasive,” Kristel says. “I joined In The Life Media because I believe that media is a powerful weapon in the fight for LGBT equality.” -CB
