“The Gay Agenda,” a new podcast that celebrates LGBTQ+ creatives, is scheduled to drop on Netflix January 10. It will be the first LGBTQ+ podcast for the popular streaming platform.
“The Gay Agenda” is produced by out actress and singer Jasmin Savoy Brown and her “Yellowjackets” co-star, non-binary actor Liv Hewson (“Don’t worry,” a disclaimer on a Netflix news release reads. “No cannibalism is involved.”). On each episode, Brown and Hewson interview LGBTQ+ pioneers from across different industries, including Fortune Feimster, Natalie Morales, Javicia Leslie, and Leo Sheng.
In the news release, Brown, who is set to appear in the reboot of “Scream,” describes the show as “joyful,” “inquisitive,” and “welcoming, adding, “I think it’s a real reflection of the LGBTQ+ community and I hope our listeners feel the same way […]. Hearing people’s unique stories and perspectives on life and happiness was a learning experience and I don’t take that for granted.”
Hewson, whose other acting credits include “Santa Clarita Diet” and “Bombshell,” adds that, “Part of the impetus behind this podcast was creating a space to talk about being LGBTQ+ in entertainment that centered on something other than pain. The pain is there, of course, but the joy is too! We want to live in joy.”
“The Gay Agenda” is produced by independent podcast production company Multitude and Most, Netflix’s platform for queer storytelling, Variety reports. Gabrielle Korn, editorial and publishing manager for Most, tells Variety that the company is “entering a new era” with the podcast, “one where the gay agenda continues to expand into all corners of our audience’s lives, making it easier and more fun than ever to discover Netflix’s LGBTQ+ talent, titles, and storytelling.
“I love this podcast so much,” she adds. “[I]t’s truly a joy to listen to, and I hope it brings that same joy to our followers.”
