Comedian and actress Niecy Nash announced her wedding to Jessica Betts on Monday with a surprise post on Twitter. You heard right — Nash just tied the knot with a woman. Welcome to the queer club, baby!
The Emmy Award-winner is best known for roles in “Reno 911!,” “Claws,” and “Selma,” while her new wife is a musician. Nash was previously married to Jay Tucker and Don Nash.
“Mrs. Carol Denise Betts,” wrote Nash in a tweet. Carol Denise Ensley is the actress’s birth name, and the caption referred to her new legal name. “#LoveWins.”

Many are calling this announcement Nash’s coming out, considering she was not publicly known to be queer before the tweet was posted. Nash did play a lesbian doctor on “The Mindy Project” in 2014 though — perhaps a cheeky nod to her identity. Betts and Nash have also not been romantically linked publicly, though Betts did appear on an episode of “Claws” in 2018. During the stint, Nash referred to Betts as her “homegirl” and Betts referred to Nash as a “woman of God.”
Betts also confirmed the news on her social media. Posting to Instagram, the singer captioned the image of the two women proceeding down the aisle: “I got a whole Wife.”
Director Ava DuVernay replied to Nash’s tweet with a video of the two brides cutting their cake at the reception. “I love you, friend,” wrote DuVernay. “It was an honor to witness your wedding to Jess. May you both have more happiness than your hearts can hold.”
