Out singer Hayley Kiyoko debuted her new single, “For the Girls,” on Friday, ahead of the July release of her sophomore album, “Panorama.”
In a playful video that accompanies the single, and which parodies “The Bachelorette,” Kiyoko, in the role of Bachelorette, is introduced to various women suitors, each with her different quirks (including one wearing a onesie and another holding a plush cat) and at various levels of inebriation. One even shows up in a U-Haul.
“I love being a woman, and women have always been a massive influence on my life,” said Kiyoko in a press release, as reported by People. “‘For the Girls’ is an anthem celebrating that love, highlighting our strength, beauty, and vulnerability.”
She added, “The music video is meant to reflect that celebration with a sense of humor and an expansive take on whose romantic story gets told.”
The video, which Kiyoko also directed, is accompanied by a carousel of contestants on the singer’s website. Among the lucky ladies are TikToker Kimber Springs, who appears with a stick horse, comedian Tatyana Guchi (in the onesie), and actress Andrea Bartlow (who appears in the U-Haul).
The video also includes a cameo by “The Bachelor” season 19 runner-up Becca Tilley, who appears at the end as a “surprise” contestant.
“Thank you to my amazing cast and crew for pulling this one off,” said Kiyoko in a message on Twitter announcing the single’s release. “This one is for the books.”
