5 Lesbian Things To Do In New Orleans This Weekend

GrrlSpot, waacking, parades.

It’s Carnival season AND the weekend before Valentine’s Day (a.k.a. last chance to get a boo), so you know what that means: time to go absolutely ham at this weekend’s lesbian events in New Orleans.

Friday

Queer Hip-Hop Waacking/Posing Lesson at the LGBT Community Center of New Orleans (2727 S. Broad Ave.) at 5:45 p.m. — Learn how to be an expert at waacking, a dance style with origins in LGBTQ clubs in Los Angeles. (Think voguing, but with disco music.)

Krewe Bohème Parade in the French Quarter at 7 p.m. — The creative revelers of Krewe Bohème will be parading through the Quarter on Saturday evening, led by their Supreme Green Fairy, Tarriona “Tank” Ball from Tank and the Bangas. There are tons of bomb queer women in this krewe.

Saturday

Femme + Jam at Swaha Yoga (623 N. Rendon St.) at 12 p.m. — This improvised dance event is open to all, even complete new-comers, as long as you self-identify as femme, trans, non-binary or gender non-conforming.

GrrlSpot: Qrewe at Dlish (209 Decatur St.) at 9 p.m. — GrrlSpot, a regular lesbian/queer pop-up event, is hosting their first 2020 event during the Krewe Du Vieux parade in the French Quarter! A “giant during and after parade experience” with two floors of dancing and glitter and queer girls.

Second Annual Femme’s Room at Poor Boys Bar (1328 St. Bernard Ave.) at 9 p.m. — Featuring DJ H3llnah, Phlegm, and more, this night of dancing and performances is also a fundraiser for Woman With a Vision, a women’s advocacy group.
