Theatre [Untitled] Debuts Hope Reimagined Playwright Reading Series on April 30, with Award-winning play by JuCoby Johnson.

WHAT: …but you could’ve held my hand, by JuCoby Johnson, a finalist in 2020 for the prestigious O’Neill NPC Award.
…but you could’ve held my hand is a play about four ten-year old’s who meet at a wedding. Little do they know; they will become the center of each other’s lives for decades to come. Jumping through time, the play uses dance, music, and poetry to explore sexuality, gender, race, and love. You know, the big stuff. Life stuff.

WHEN: April 30, 2021 – 8p.m. Tickets are FREE with registration.

WHERE: Each reading will be available online at https://tinyurl.com/TUREADINGSERIES. In person tickets will be released for future readings as CDC guidelines allow.

WHO: Playwright JuCoby Johnson grew up in Jacksonville, FL, moved to the Twin Cities in 2011 and has been creating there ever since. He has been seen onstage at The Guthrie Theater, Cincinnati Playhouse in the Park, The Jungle Theater, Theater Latté Da, Theater Mu, Ten Thousand Things Theatre Company, and many more. His plays include How It’s Gon Be (Underdog Theater, 2019), …but you could’ve held my hand (2020 O’Neill NPC Finalist), I’ll Be Seeing You Again (Jungle Serial Audio Series, 2021) and Revelations (Playing On Air, 2021). He is a 2020-2021 Many Voices Mentee at the Playwright’s Center in Minneapolis and a graduate of the University of MN/Guthrie Theater Actor Training Program.

ABOUT THE READING SERIES: The Theatre [Untitled] Reading Series features new works in development that cultivate a symbiotic relationship between the playwright, artists, and audience. This critical relationship pushes the piece to the point of ignition and empowers audiences to be active participants in the creation of the art they experience.

WHY: In 2021, Hope will be determined on our terms. As artists, a community, and a nation we need to create and reimagine Hope. Whether it is the ongoing challenges of Covid-19, teaching or being taught over zoom, bringing back in person theatre, or the racial injustice we continue to see in the fabric of our country; we can still move toward Hope Reimagined. Hope is what continues to inspire us to keep moving forward each day, and it will continue to guide Theatre [Untitled] and our artistic community.

WHAT ELSE IS GOING ON: This year, Theatre [Untitled] also launched its first-ever, virtual Theatre [Untitled] Concert Series, featuring the work of up-and-coming singer/songwriters. The series provides an exploratory platform for artists to experiment and connect with a larger community of collaborators.
The next Concert Series performance will take place on May 14th, 2021 at 8 p.m., and will feature NYC-based writer, lyricist, composer, and performer, James Powers.

Tickets for the Concert Series are available at: tinyurl.com/TUCONCERT21
