As part of a month long collaboration celebrating New York City through the medium of photography, Rockefeller Center and Aperture present a virtual conversation series with artists Jamel Shabazz, Irina Rozovsky, Widline Cadet and Rafael Rios that will be held virtually over Zoom. All conversations are free and advance registration is required on Aperture’s website.

The virtual conversations include:
Thursday, April 8 at 7:00 p.m.: Irina Rozovsky will review her project In Plain Air (2011–20), featured in the “New York” issue of Aperture magazine. From images of women fishing and family barbeques to young couples in the grass, In Plain Air is a lover letter to Prospect Park and all those who spend time there. This conversation is in collaboration with Parsons School of Design and MACK.

Thursday, April 22 at 7:00 p.m.: Nicole Acheampong, assistant editor of Aperture magazine, and photographers Widline Cadet and Rafael Rios will discuss their work featured in the “New York” issue, and on crafting intimate portraits of friends and family.

The first conversation in the series was between esteemed photographer Jamel Shabazz, who currently has an outdoor public art exhibition on display at Rockefeller Center, and writer Tanisha C. Ford. The pair discussed Shabazz’s career, his lasting legacy, how quarantine has given him time to rediscover hidden gems in his archive, and his current installation that’s on display at the Center through April. The talk can be viewed on Rockefeller Center’s event page.
The virtual talks series is part of a month long program in partnership with Aperture that includes two new outdoor public art exhibitions at Rockefeller Center, The Flag Project and a lightbox exhibition featuring NYC street and subway photography of Jamel Shabazz, and an Aperture pop-up store with prints and books for sale, and artist signings and appearances. This Aperture engagement space is located at 30 Rockefeller Plaza on 49th Street between fifth and sixth Avenues and is open to the public Tuesday through Saturday, 10:30am to 6:30pm.
