Calpulli Mexican Dance Company Tells the Story of Cinco de Mayo at Count Basie Center

Tickets: $35, $20 | Limit 8 tickets per mailing address

DOORS 6PM • SHOWTIME 7PM
Hackensack Meridian Health Theatre • Basie Center Campus • 99 Monmouth Street, Red Bank

“Puebla: The Story of Cinco de Mayo” was conceived by Artistic Director & Co-Founder Alberto Lopez Herrera who sought to honor the culture of his birthplace in Puebla, Mexico. At the same time, he wanted to take advantage of the American celebration of Cinco de Mayo, and the many misconceptions about what it represents and why. Lastly, its retelling of the history is through our own eyes as Mexicans, Poblanxs, and immigrants.

The production premiered in April 2019 at Queens Theatre and Basie Center for the Arts. The creation of the work was made possible by the New England Foundation for the Arts who granted Calpulli a National Dance Project Award that continues to support touring of the work.

Please note: The Count Basie Center for the Arts no longer requires proof of vaccination for entry at its historic theater, The Vogel or Basie Center Cinemas.

The Count Basie Center reserves the right to amend this policy as necessary, including at the request of certain artists or touring productions.

Masks are not required, though we strongly encourage their use and respect all patrons who choose to continue doing so.
