The Very Best of NYC Art

LGBT Gallery Tours, Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Steichen and Paul Strand, Kitchen’s 2010 Benefit Art Auction

Over the past eight years, LGBT Gallery Tours has led 86 expeditions to cutting-edge galleries featuring works by leading gay and lesbian artists. On Nov 13, visit seven Chelsea art galleries, all with current exhibits by lesbian and gay artists, and get the inside scoop on the LGBT art scene from a gay studies professor. Enjoy painting, sculpture, electronic media, photography and more with like-minded art buffs.

Three giants of 20th century American photography—Alfred Stieglitz, Edward Steichen and Paul Strand—will be featured at the Metropolitan Museum of Art from Nov 10 through April 10, 2011. The diverse and groundbreaking work of these artists is revealed through a presentation of 115 photographs drawn entirely from the Museum’s collection. Some of the greatest works on display include Stieglitz’s famous portraits of Georgia O’Keeffe, Steichen’s large colored photographs of the Flatiron building, and Strand’s pioneering abstractions.

Nov 16 marks the Kitchen’s 2010 Benefit Art Auction. Early cocktails and a silent auction will be followed by a live auction with auctioneer Gabriela Palmieri of Sotheby’s. All proceeds will be shared with the participating artists and will go to support artists’ fees for the non-profit experimental performance space’s 2010-11 season, which includes video, music, dance, performance, film and literature.
