Lizzo Gives The Gays An Official Anthem

Special features the songs “About Damn Time” and “Grrrls,” which were each dropped as singles ahead of the full album’s release, as well as the cheeky anthem “Everybody’s Gay.”

Pop star Lizzo dropped her fourth studio album, Special, on Friday.

Special features the songs “About Damn Time” and “Grrrls,” which were each dropped as singles ahead of the full album’s release, as well as the anthem “Everybody’s Gay.”

“Dance the night away/Keep your pussy poppin,’ pop those percolates,” Lizzo sings on the refrain. “Everybody’s gay, yeah/It’s a happy place in here baby, you’re safe.”

She continues, “We can take our mask off/We can all ball and parlay/I can hardly wait.”

Lizzo told Variety in an interview earlier this year that  she’s “been working on this album since the summer of 2018. It has evolved to a place where I’m proud. It’s one of the most musically badass, daring, and sophisticated bodies of work I’ve done to date.”

She added, “And I hope that it is some of the most useful pieces of music to ever exist. All I want to do is help people through music.”

Special is the singer/songwriter’s first album since Cuz I Love You, which dropped in 2019 and propelled Lizzo to music superstardom. It featured the hit songs “Juice” and “Tempo.”

The release of Special coincides with the launch of Lizzo’s North American tour, The Special Tour, Billboard reports. Additionally, Rolling Stone has reported that the singer/songwriter will donate $1 million of proceeds from the tour to support abortion access following the Supreme Court’s decision to overturn Roe v. Wade
