Biden Cancels HRC Speech

Veep blames gov shutdown

Vice President Joe Biden has canceled his planned keynote address at the Human Rights Campaign’s glitzy annual dinner in Washington, D.C., the Washington Blade reports. Biden said the speech, scheduled for this Saturday, was axed due to the House Republicans’ shutdown of the federal government.

“We’re disappointed but understand,” HRC spokesperson Fred Sainz told the Blade. Biden, in a phone call to HRC president Chad Griffin, added that he continues to support full equality for all LGBT people.

“Engage,” the organization’s 17th annual dinner, will still honor Jennifer Lopez and the legal team behind the Windsor v. United States Supreme Court victory as planned. Musician Sara Bareilles will perform at the sold-out event.
