Caline and Rivva had both been going to a mutual friend’s parties for years, but somehow never crossed paths. When they did finally meet, they literally ran into each other. “Out of nowhere,” recalls Caline, “I felt someone bump into me.” Her reaction, she says, was “WTF.” But when she turned around, she saw a smiling face that melted her heart. “They say the best curve on a woman’s body is her smile, and that’s all I saw,” Caline says. The smile was intentional, Rivva says. “I saw this beautiful woman with the sexy Jamaican swagger, who was looking in every other direction instead of my direction. So in order to get her attention, I knowingly bumped into her and as she turned around, I smiled.” Eight months later, the two got engaged, and they married in fall of 2013 at the Brooklyn Botanic Garden. “The most memorable part of our wedding,” says Caline, “was watching my Queen, soon-to-be Mrs. Kelly, walking hand-in-hand with her dad towards me.” Though they got off to a “bumpy” start, they have been able to weather arguments through communication. One example: Caline wanted the toilet tissue under, and Rivva wanted it over. Rivva wanted the paper towels from the left and Caline wanted it from the right. Eventually, they decided that the person who changes the toilet paper or paper towels gets to decide. “Our advice to other couples is learn how to argue.”
