Sunitha and Shante met in 2011 through mutual friends on Long Island during a spur-of-the-moment Fourth of July beach trip. Now, these go-getters pride themselves on being the most active couple around! Their individual passion for health and fitness truly flourished once they started dating. “Our weekends find us outdoors, rock climbing, hiking, camping or just enjoying Prospect Park when we decide to stay local,” Sunitha says. “We´ve run numerous races together, including two marathons-most recently the NYC ING marathon last year. We´re totally looking forward to a lifetime full of fitness challenges and outdoor adventures.” Though it wasn´t easy at first, they´ve learned how best to communicate and compromise: “We always put our relationship first, above and beyond everything else. We´re honest about what we need and talk about the difficult things,” they say. “We also still do the things we did when we first started dating, romantic gestures to make each other smile.” In November, after their annual Thanksgiving Day 5-mile run, Shante got down on one knee in Sunitha´s parents´ backyard with their family members gathered behind her, holding signs that collectively read, “Sunitha, will you marry me?” The pair has set a rough date for fall of 2015, “and definitely in Brooklyn. It´s where we live, it´s where we fell in love, and it´s our entire history, so we must get married there!”
