Pride Toastmasters

LGBTQ Pride Month: A Conversation with Cheryl Dunye

Cheryl Dunye emerged as part of the “queer new wave” of young filmmakers of the 1990s, whose work is defined by her distinctive narrative voice, a hybrid of documentary and fiction that has been dubbed “Dunyementary” style. At the event, Dunye will receive the annual José Muñoz Award, given in honor of LGBTQ activists who have promoted queer and trans studies and visibility in their work. The 4th Annual Biere De Fierte Pride Release Party

Quiet No More: A Choral Celebration of Stonewall

Quiet No More is a new work co-commissioned by the New York City Gay Men’s Chorus, Gay Men’s Chorus of Los Angeles, The Stonewall Chorale, and others commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall riots that launched the LGBTQ rights movement. Duality: NYPL’s Manhattan Anti-Prom

It’s a night that offers an inclusive space for all, regardless of sexuality, gender identity or presentation, and dress. Open to youth ages 12 to 18, the night kicks off with a fashion show featuring designs from students of the High School of Fashion Industries, who each year decide the Anti-Prom theme after a visit to the Library’s picture collection. Planned Parenthood will offer resources for attendees, while North Shore Animal League will have puppies on hand for stress relief.

In Search of Stonewall: The Riots at 50 and The Gay & Lesbian Review at 25

Celebrate a quarter century of the pioneering journal of LGBTQ life with this event to honor the release of the commemorative book, In Search of Stonewall: The Riots at 50 and The Gay & Lesbian Review at 25. Founded in 1994—25 years after the Stonewall Riots—the Review is a groundbreaking bimonthly magazine that features reviews, history, politics, and culture through the lens of the LGBTQ experience. GO! Brooklyn Pride

The fun kicks off with a 5K Pride Run at 10am. A multicultural festival—featuring vendors, food trucks and live performances—will take place on 5th Avenue between 1st and 9th Streets, starting at 11am. The parade starts around Lincoln Place and ends at 9th Street and 5th Avenue and steps off promptly at 7:30pm.

Queer/Art/Pride Book & Print Fair

1pm-6pm, free, Abrons Arts Center, 466 Grand St, eventbrite.com. The centerpiece of Queer|Art|Pride 2019 is the first-ever Queer|Art|Pride Book & Print Fair with work available for sale by 30+ participating LGBTQ+ artists from the Queer|Art| Mentorship program. Curated in the spirit of abundance, the Queer|Art|Pride Book & Print Fair will include hundreds of works for perusal and purchase, with an eclectic range of artist books, novels, zines, poetry chapbooks, drawings, photographs, watercolors, collages, prints, and other limited edition artworks. Many artists will be present to discuss their work, while live performances and readings throughout the day provide additional opportunities to hear the work out loud.

Queer Brunch with “Punks” (2000)

This year marks the 38th running of this alliance between New York Road Runners and Front Runners New York, a competitive and social club for LGBTQ runners, multisport athletes and their allies. At this all-day conference, an official WorldPride event, there will be invited speakers sharing their work, such as authors, researchers, artists, and others. LGBTQ Pride History Walking Tour

The event is free for those under 21 but registration is required. DJ Nhandi will spin at Youth Pride this year, while Deetranada is set to blaze the stage. Fun interactive experiences, games, and entertainment for all who attend. GO! Harlem Pride 2019 10th Anniversary Celebration Day

This family-oriented festival serves as a great opportunity to bring the community together to celebrate our lives and our community! Harlem Pride is celebrating several things in 2019: its 10th anniversary, the 100th anniversary of the Harlem Renaissance, WorldPride coming to NYC, and the 50th anniversary of the Stonewall Uprising. Over 20,000 attendees will visit Harlem to participate in the festivities.

All Ages Pride Party

GO! NYC Pride March 2019

The first March was held in 1970 and has since become an annual civil rights demonstration. Over the years, its purpose has broadened to include recognition of the fight against HIV/AIDS and to remember those we have lost to illness, violence, and neglect. The March is a celebration of our lives and our community. With over 100 floats making the trek along the route, last year’s March was one of the largest and most exciting in history. This is a grassroots action intent on mobilizing the community to address the social and political battles that continue to be fought locally, nationally, and globally.  They recognize the powerful legacy of the Stonewall Rebellion by highlighting the most marginalized members of our community. The Queer Liberation March kicks off from Sheridan Square and proceeds up Sixth Avenue to Central Park for a community-focused Rally with uplifting speakers and performers.
