Why Women Cry: an evening of stories, poems, and positive responses for the Cleansing of the Eyes & the Soul

Based on the book written & compiled by Sana Y. Shabazz

Adapted & Directed by Najah Imani Muhammad

With Original Music by Dawn Grannum

From prison to politics, from humor and antics, to serious matters of the heart, you will find empowerment and strength in what you see and hear. Why Women Cry is a show for all people to give and to receive. It is an evening where you will be invited to be like a leaf on a stream, and simply flow.

Why Women Cry is based off of the 2001 book, Why Women Cry: a compilation of stories, poems & positive responses for the cleansing of the eyes & the soul, written and compiled by Sana Y. Shabazz, with the help of many contributing writers, including director, Najah Imani Muhammad, seeking their own healing. This show allows it’s artists to express themselves freely and give in to vulnerability as a strength, inviting audience members to do so along the journey, as well.
