Highlighting the incredible talent of the Bronx Arts Ensemble’s teachers of African dance, the July 21st concert offers the opportunity to enjoy a program of contemporary West African drumming and dance in beautiful Van Cortlandt Park. Come and enjoy the unique sounds of the balafon, djembe, and djun-djun.
Performing in elaborate masks to the explosive percussion of a corps of brilliant drummers, KAMATE TRADERS Dance Company brings to life the ancient stories and legends of Africa’s Ivory Coast. Under the artistic direction of Yahaya Kamate, KAMATE TRADERS is rapidly establishing itself as one of the most exciting African troupes in the United States. Noteworthy past engagements include a tour in Greece, many festivals in the tri-state area and performances at private and public schools.
