En Foco presents “In Between Yesterday Today and Tomorrow”, an exhibition of its 2021 Photography Fellowship winners.

Designed to support photographers of color who demonstrate the highest quality of work as determined by a photography panel of peers and industry professionals, this year’s awardees include Richard Acevedo, Argenis Apolinario, Roy Baizan, Daveed Baptiste, Kevin Quiles Bonilla, Amarise Carreras, Vinay Hira, Sydney King, Spandita Malik, and Bashira Webb.

This cohort of BIPOC creatives builds on the ideas that push cultural narratives to the center while interrogating race, geography, and gender. Acevedo, Apolinario, and Baizan represent the tangible touchstones of history and community often defined by geography. Baptiste and Malik rework culturally stylized representation. While facing queer and heteronormative traditions Quiles Bonilla, Webb, Carreras, and Hira redraw the boundaries set by colonialism. Lastly, King culls photographic dialogues of her familial histories. “The photographs in this exhibition highlight the experiences of artists whose layered identities leave them shifting between worlds and who critique the power dynamics inherent in racial essentialisms. These artists are taking the knowledge of the past and the current moment to transform perceptions about cultural interpretations, identities, and the future.” -Elia Alba

“In Between Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow” is curated by Elia Alba. It will run from June 1 – June 30 by appointment only.
