Keeping It Real with the Womyn of Public Access will celebrate WOMEN IN MEDIA. We’ve got an extraordinary lineup of filmmakers, musicians, and comedians. Keeping It Real is a weekly Public Access show that airs on Brooklyn Free Speech. This long standing show will highlight the voices of women filmmakers, performers, artists, and television producers of Brooklyn’s Public Access channels. On this evening we will discuss what it means to be a woman in media and experience the works of these amazing women, who pick up a TV camera, knowing exactly how to use it.

HOST:

Angela-Renee Ross Coakley is a seasoned TV and events producer and hosts Nicole TV on Brooklyn Free Speech and B-Reel on BRIC TV.

SPECIAL PERFORMANCES:

Bernice “Boom Boom” Brook (MUSICIAN) is one of the most versatile drummers playing today, a BRIC Celebrate Brooklyn! Festival alum, and has performed and shared the stage with Tito Puente, Gregory Hines, Patti Labelle, and many Jazz and R&B greats.

Bajanalla Cann (DANCER) is a high energy, high-impact dance/fitness diva and host of #Bajaerobics which airs on Brooklyn Free Speech. The 2014 #BFreeAwards WOW! Factor winner’s fitness style rivals any Richard Simmons or Tae Bo routine you’ve ever seen.

Christina Hu – Blacklist (Short Documentary)
Blacklist is Hu’s second documentary film that follows Taiwan’s journey toward democratization through the experiences of Taiwanese political activists who were blacklisted by the ruling party KMT.

Valarie Carey – TOTM! Tea Talk (Television Series)
Val Carey is the Executive Producer and Talk Show Host of the new and exciting show TOTM! Tea Talk that airs on Brooklyn Free Speech TV. Val became a certified Brooklyn Free Speech Community Producer in December 2015. TOTM! Tea Talk centers on menstrual wellness focusing on lifestyle, fitness, mindset and nutrition. Val Carey is a Brooklyn born native, a retired NYPD Police Sergeant, and founder of TOTM! Time Of The Month! a menstrual wellness company. TOTM! Tea Talk is hosted by Val Carey, author and menstrual maven. Val delivers valuable period tips and advice for girls and women to have healthier, happier and less painful menstrual cycles.

Brooklyn Free Speech Stage takes place Fridays 6-10pm and Saturdays 12-4pm, on March 24, 25, April 21, 22, May 5, 6.

This program is taking place in conjunction with the Public Access/Open Networks exhibition, on view at BRIC House through May 7, 2017.
