“That’s definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship,” Kravitz said.

Catwoman is bisexual in the new movie “The Batman” according to star Zoē Kravitz.

In an interview with Australia’s Pedestrian, Kravitz, who plays Selina Kyle/Catwoman in the upcoming film, said that she had interpreted her character to be bisexual, and believes that Selina had previously been involved with her friend, Anika, who also appears in the film.

“That’s definitely the way I interpreted that, that they had some kind of romantic relationship,” Kravitz said, referring to a scene where Selina calls Anika “baby.”

In a separate interview with Pedestrian, “The Batman” director Matt Reeves confirmed that the interpretation was also accurate, although not the result of any message the film was explicitly going for. “I don’t think we meant to go directly in that way, but you can interpret it that way for sure,” he said. “She has an intimacy with that character and it’s a tremendous and deep caring for that character, more so than a sexual thing, but there was meant to be quite an intimate relationship between them.”

In the comics, Catwoman is frequently portrayed as bisexual, although audiences have yet to see this side of the character’s sexuality in any television or film adaptation.

According to spoilers, the latest film doesn’t do a whole lot to challenge the on-screen narrative, only briefly exploring the possibility of a previous same-sex love interest. But if the actor who plays Catwoman says the character is indeed bisexual, here’s to hoping that we see more to this side of Catwoman in subsequent films.
