Allison Ponthier, a New York-based queer singer and songwriter, posted a video on her Instagram of her singing a cover of “The L Word” theme song, but with a twist: it’s also a cover of Ariana Grande‘s “7 Rings” AND Julie Andrews’ “My Favorite Things.”

The L Word x @arianagrande 🌈 this is my magnum opus!!!!!

Ponthier uses the exact same lyrics from the show’s original theme song by Betty but puts them to the beat of Grande’s 2019 hit, giving the opening credits song a modern update.

The singer captioned her post, “The L Word x @arianagrande 🌈 this is my magnum opus!!!!!” and received a number of positive comments about the song. “I really hope they used this version of the theme song on the new L word episodes. Who’s the music supervisor, someone needs to talk to them,” wrote Instagram user sh_cheval.

At the end of her cover, Ponthier throws in a more personal tribute to Jenny, one of the most controversial characters on “The L Word.” While she has her own strong fan following, the character also sees her fair share of hate. It looks like Ponthier is on the #hatetrain, because she throws in one line that’s not quite in the original song: “No one likes Jenny, no no.”

Regardless of how you feel about Jenny, we absolutely love this song. It’s a modernized take on the song we’ve heard oh so many times before, and, who knows? Maybe we’ll get to hear it open the show’s reboot. We can only hope!
