Brandi Carlile rocked “Saturday Night Live” this past weekend with performances of two of her greatest hits.
The Grammy-winning singer/songwriter first performed her classic, “The Story” – from her second album of the same name – midway through Saturday’s episode.
She wrapped up her appearance with a performance of “You and Me on the Rock” – from her two most recent albums, “In These Silent Days” and “In the Canyon Haze” – featuring Jesse Wolfe and Holly Laessig of the indie band Lucius.
The appearance marked Carlile’s second turn as musical guest on the long-running sketch show. She made her first appearance on the show in October 2021.
In a post-show message on Twitter, Carlile reflected on the experience of performing “The Story” again Saturday night, over 15 years after its debut. “For some reason it just felt right to play The Story … ending this year honoring our younger selves,” she wrote. “Maybe it’s in deep gratitude … or maybe it’s because I finally do have some lines on my face. Either way thanks for giving us that gift SNL I will never forget it.”

She also gave a shout-out to Lucius “for lighting UP You and Me on the Rock,” and to hosts Steve Martin and Martin Short, who “stayed out late as everyone else [at the after-party] after masterfully hosting the greatest show on TV.”

In addition to her Saturday-night performance, Carlile closes out the year with seven Grammy nominations, including for Album of the Year (“In These Silent Days”) and Record of the Year (“You and Me on the Rock”), bringing her career total to 17 nominations, including six wins.
“Let’s pray for a Grammy!” she messaged on Twitter after her performance of “You and Me on the Rock.”
