23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards, Winter Heat, Original GLBT Expo, The Center Dinner, Broadway Bears XV, Encore for Hope,

The Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) the nation’s LGBT media advocacy and anti-defamation organization, presents its 23rd Annual GLAAD Media Awards at the Marriott Marquis Mar 24. By recognizing and honoring media for outstanding images of the LGBT community, the GLAAD Media Awards serve as a benchmark for the media industry and complement GLAAD’s work to bring LGBT images and stories to the mainstream. This year’s nominees include Beginners, starring Christopher Plummer and Ewan McGregor; Albert Nobbs, starring Glenn Close and Janet McTeer; J. Edgar, starring Leonardo DiCaprio and Armie Hammer; Glee, Modern Family, Becoming Chaz, the AIDS documentary We Were Here, and Lady Gaga for her Born This Way album.

Join the Empire State Pride Agenda, New York’s statewide LGBT civil rights and advocacy organization, for a night of dancing, cocktails and socializing at Winter Heat, the Pride Agenda’s annual women’s event. This year’s event will be held at Marquee Nightclub on Mar 15. Details TBA.

Don’t miss the 19th anniversary of the Original GLBT Expo as it returns to the Jacob K. Javits Convention Center Mar 17-18. Since 1993, the Expo has helped to present the finest products and services available to the LGBT consumer, generating over $80,000,000 spent within the greater tri-state area. This includes LGBT friendly companies from every industry, both large and small; Fortune 1000 firms and gay-owned companies. This year’s expo sees the return of the Wedding Pavilion and features performances by Sahara Davenport, Minx & Grace, Kiesza and more.

Save the date for The Center Dinner at the Hammerstein Ballroom Mar. 21. This year’s event will honor outgoing Board President Mario Palumbo, who created Center Dinner in 2007. Palumbo will be recognized for his dynamic leadership, passion and dedication to the Center. The night kicks off with a cocktail reception and continues with sumptuous dinner and live entertainment. Stay to dance the night away at The Center Social after party.

The teddy bears go on display for Broadway Bears XV at BB King’s Blues Club and Grill Mar 28. The annual grand auction of one-of-a-kind, museum quality, theatrically costumed and autographed teddy bears raised more than $103,000 last year for Broadway Cares/Equity Fights AIDS. The 2012 cast of bears includes characters from current and past Broadway shows, signed by the performers, writers, directors or designers who made them famous.

Join the American Cancer Society’s Encore for Hope, for an evening of cocktails, hors d’oeuvres and performances in support of the American Cancer Society’s efforts within the LGBT Community, at Providence NYC Feb 13. The evening will be hosted by Judy Gold and feature performances by New York City Gay Men’s Chorus, Sherry Vine and Sahara Davenport, with celebrity DJ Choimatic and more.
