Wrapping up their BAAD!ASS Women’s Festival in their own theater space is the Bronx Academy of Arts and Dance, Apr 3-11.  The final performances include “Dancing Like A Girl: NYC B-girls in the 1990s” featuring legendary B-girls from across the city, and “Lift Every Voice”, a powerful program of female voices with styles ranging from jazz to rap.  Also, making her BAAD debut is Staceyann Chin, an award-winning poet who has been seen on HBO’s Def Poetry Jam.

Ailey II returns to the Ailey Citigroup Theater from Apr 15-26. This highly acclaimed company combines the best young dancers with today’s most outstanding emerging choreographers. On the cutting edge of dance, Ailey II’s shows feature a youthful spirit and boundless energy that makes every performance unique.

Symphony Space’s season of spring dance programming begins Apr 2 with notable programs including the Thalia Dance: Keigwin Kabaret and the signature event, Dance Sampler: Blues in the Night. Keigwin Kabaret, hosted by none other than hometown hero Murray Hill, is being called “A vaudevillian-like fusion of contemporary dance, burlesque, comedy, and side show entertainment all in a Warholesque spirit.”  Inspired by the backstage happenings of live theater, the company presents the underbelly of performance culture with gentle irony.  The Dance Sampler event on Apr 25 brings together twelve amazing choreographers under the theme “blues in the night” to explore what these ideas mean to them.
