The Very Best of NYC Comedy & Variety

Clown By Dead Reckoning, W.A.R., Night of A Thousand Stevies and more!

In Clowns By Dead Reckoning, Kendall Cornell and her 11-women clown troupe present a semi-sophisticated evening of music and dance in their unique clown style. At La Mama Experimental Theater April 11–13, some French can-can legs, some flamenco feet, and a torch singer’s set of pipes make a full-bodied cocktail of an evening—all with delightful humor and suitable irreverence. Interwoven throughout the evening are special guest artists whose serious talents are a point
of comic collaboration for Ms. Cornell and the troupe.

From sex toys to S&M, from machismo to masturbation, from fetishes to fantasies to food as a substitute for flesh, W.A.R. (Women Are Real) shines a spotlight on what turns Latinas on. April 16 at The Players’ Theatre, five sexy Latinas dish on subjects ranging from promiscuity to domination to intimate relationships with inanimate objects in creator and producer Iris Silverio’s hilarious, sexually-charged show.

Night of a Thousand Stevies 18: Nightbirds hits the Highline Ballroom May 9. The annual event is the biggest and best-loved Stevie Nicks fan event in the world, and this year’s show, subtitled The Ones Who Sing At Night, will take place against a midnight sky onstage, in shimmering faux-moonlight. Neither a contest nor a karaoke show, NOTS is a riot of shawls, lace, baby’s breath, twirling, tambourines and great performance. This largest NOTS stage to date will host a record number of performers in three sets, including perennial show-stoppers The Ho-Hos, Shortbus star Justin Bond, Sherry Vine, Darlinda Just Darlinda and more.
