The Bronx Academy of Arts & Dance (BAAD!) kicks off its spring season with BAAD!ASS WOMEN 2008, its annual cultural festival celebrating the empowerment of women. The festival, now through Mar 29 at BAAD!, will open with a special concert by BRIO Award-winning choreographer Jessica Danser and continue through the month with seven unique offerings of dance, theatre, music, film and art, including performances by Elizabeth “Macha” Marrero, Saheli, Imani Uzuri, plus award-winning choreographers, an evening of women filmmakers curated by Mix NYC, a tribute to freedom fighter Freda Rosen and more.
To show support for The City of New York’s recently-revealed proposal for preserving Coney’s islands Amusement District, a fabulous group of Coney Island gliteratti have banded together to plan Save Coney Island, a wild spectacle of a community awareness event.
