The Very Best of Music

Tigers, Muses & Jasmine, Audio Fiction and more…

The highly praised Tigers, Muses & Jasmine starring the German actress and singer Micaela Leon hits the Metropolitan Room on May 9 and 23. Leon portrays eight of the most notorious female trendsetters of Weimar Berlin in the 1920s. These bold women traded in the scandal, rebellion and sense of experimentation that swelled in Berlin between the two world wars. Among the women who epitomized the avant-garde spirit of the times while responding to the brewing Nazi storm on the horizon were Marlene Dietrich, Anita Berber, Valeska Gert, Rosa Luxemburg, Blandine Ebinger, Ruth Landshoff, Gabrielle Tergit and Claire Waldoff.

May is crammed with hot bands and performers doing what they do all over the city. Audio Fiction are a cross between Blondie, No Doubt and The Pretenders, but with their own unique style. Catch them on May 10 at Piano’s before their album drops this summer. Queer indie singer/songwriter Katie Sawicki, hailing from Portland, Ore., performs tracks from her new record Time Spent Lost at The Living Room on May 22. Don’t miss her while she’s in town! Last but not least, the ever-eclectic Ladystein take on Southpaw May 4 with their signature blend of rock ‘n’ roll and traditional musical instruments.
