The Trans Model In Taylor Swift’s New Music Video Says ‘It’s Humanizing Trans People’

“We deserve to exist. We deserve to take up space in society. We will always exist regardless of anti-trans propaganda.”

In October, hours before her heavily anticipated 10th album release, Taylor Swift dropped a video trailer on Instagram. One part of the trailer, in particular, got the internet hot and bothered — our girl T-Swift in bed with trans actor Laith Ashley. In the clip, Swift gently strokes Ashley’s back, producing an otherworldly stream of glitter. Fans took to twitter to celebrate this win for trans representation — oh, and to shamelessly thirst over how hot Swift and Ashley are together.

On Friday, we finally got to see the full video from which the clip originated. Swift released the self-directed music video for her song “Lavender Haze.” Fans got to catch a longer glimpse of the loving couple portrayed by Swift and Laith, and needless to say, we are eating it up.

“The notifications just kept coming in and I was so excited I didn’t want to put my phone on silent mode,” Laith told BuzzFeed News on Friday. “I was just scrolling and looking and reposting and all of the things, and trying to respond to as many messages as possible.”

“Having a trans person just being in love on screen, it’s humanizing trans people,” Ashley added. “We deserve to exist. We deserve to take up space in society. We will always exist regardless of anti-trans propaganda.”
