Austra’s queer brainchild Katie Stelmanis blends operatic arias with synthesizers and feminist vibes on the band’s third album, their follow-up to 2013’s “Olympia.” What’s new this time around is a noticeably more upbeat feel in the instrumental components, inspired in part by Stelmanis’s time spent songwriting in Mexico where she embraced “electro-cumbia.” “I Love You More Than You Love Yourself” is just one example of “Future Politics” contradictions, with a heavy, danceable bass beat begging listeners to move while singing lines like “There is nothing in your soul tonight/I only see darkness.”
