Six New Albums to Stream from Out Women in 2017

There’s something for everyone in these multi-genre musical offerings.

Austra – “Future Politics”
For fans of: electro-goth-pop, witchy vibes, songs to listen to at women’s marches and rallies

Austra’s queer brainchild Katie Stelmanis blends operatic arias with synthesizers and feminist vibes on the band’s third album, their follow-up to 2013’s “Olympia.” What’s new this time around is a noticeably more upbeat feel in the instrumental components, inspired in part by Stelmanis’s time spent songwriting in Mexico where she embraced “electro-cumbia.” “I Love You More Than You Love Yourself” is just one example of “Future Politics” contradictions, with a heavy, danceable bass beat begging listeners to move while singing lines like “There is nothing in your soul tonight/I only see darkness.”
