In this episode, Paige Gilbert gets raw about growing up in Detroit with two moms who weren’t quite out about their relationship. Gilbert is now in her 20s and questioning her sexuality because she felt so much shame around sex throughout her child.
The shame around being out for so many parents is real, though Gilbert says she knew what was going on with her moms, the rest of the world didn’t. The undertone of shame that she felt made her hyper aware that the world around her, including her friends and other family members, wouldn’t be OK with her moms being lesbians. She carried that shame into her adulthood, making her afraid to even tell her moms about her questioning sexuality. She’s now ready to break that lineage of shame and bring about feeling of pride around her sexuality, whatever that may be.
Gilbert ends the video by answering the question, “Why is your body a good place to be?”
“My body is actually amazing, I can express and people can receive it.”
