NY Nightlife: The Scene (Feb 6-Mar 5)

Snapshot celebrates five years and all the best Valentine’s day parties!

CINCO-SATIONAL
Snapshot, the beloved Tuesday night party for a mixed queer crowd, is celebrating its fifth anniversary on March 9, and we couldn’t be more excited! Founder Shana Fried has been turning it out weekly for five years, and she’s always delivered one of the most reliably fun and exciting mid-week parties in New York with the help of Sir Sabrina and The Gaysha. Every facet of queer culture has a place at Snapshot, from drag kings to femmes to transfolk, from the shy to the famous. Snapshot’s special events have a special place in our heart—like their annual fashion show, the queer prom night, and performances by superstars like Jasper James and ex-members of Triple Creme. Resident DJs Nasty, Noa D, Tease and Roze Royce always keep things thumping. Come out on March 9, shake your booty, meet a girl, hang out on the awesome roof deck of the Delancey, and show the Snapshot folks your love!

GOLDEN GIRLS GONE WILD

Queens Marie and Cherelynore, the masterminds behind Victoria, New York’s hardest-to-define party for women who dress as men who dress as women, are welcoming back last year’s wildly successful Golden Girls tribute night at the Stonewall, in the package of We Love the Golden Girls 2 on Saturday, February 28. The promoters hope to make this an annual event for years to come. Some of the fun to be expected: performances by "senior" talent, including a grandma belly dancer and a Bob Hope-style comedian. Legendary drag queens Linda Simpson and Lavinia Co-op will be on hand, along with Golden Girls-inspired acts by Dave End, MargOH! Channing and Raven Snook. And Violet Temper will lipsynch the most memorable scene from Designing Women, another stalwart of Lifetime TV. Come dressed as your favorite old lady or let the Victorians dress you. Or just come for the free cheesecake!

WEST IS BEST
Monday is by most standards a dreadful day, but the ladies behind the popular West End Girls party have the solution to your dreary start of the week, and that would be to keep the weekend going. Every Monday night, Hell’s Kitchen’s HK Lounge is swarming with ladies looking for a release! "Hipster girls, pretty bois and other lovelies" are what you’ll find in this ultra-cool club, dancing to DJ Stacy’s hip-hop, pop and party house mixes. If what you see before you isn’t enough, check out the giant projector wall, where steamy Sapphic cinema screens all night. But you won’t need to: perfect go-gos bathed in pink light are all that’s required to forget your work-week worries.

VALENTINE’S DAY YOUR WAY

Hey lovebirds, it’s that time of year again. Valentine’s Day is here, and whether you’re already shackin’ up or on the prowl, our nightlife section has got the goods for you. V-day falls on a Saturday this year, and you know what that means: more parties than ever! Here’s a preview of what our favorite lesbian clubs and events have to offer you and your future ex-girlfriend on February the 14th.

249 Bar Lounge will be crawling with heartthrobs when DJ Storm gives the joint the best hip-hop, R&B and old skool treatment. Sound good? It’ll sound even better after you’ve downed a few $3 drink specials. For just a couple bucks more, you can add the bubbly all night long.

Things will be booming at Bum Bum Bar’s Weekend of Love festivities, where you can get down with the wildest women of Queens. Rumbero DJ Boli will turn up the heat, so you can show those moves to your newfound love interest(s).

The Cattyshack crew takes things on the road this month, and you’ll find them at Superfine for a super fine supper club. Come early for dinner and jazz, then stay late for drinks and DJs. The theme is a Pirate’s Valentine, so this party is all about getting some booty. If you’ve already found the woman of your dreams, capture the love in a picture at their photo booth.

The Valentine’s Day Bash at Club Door is brought to you by none other than two luminaries of lesbian nightlife, Nikki and Danielle. That’s right, they’ve teamed up with DJ Susan Levine, a luminary in her own right, for an all-out extravaganza. Go-gos will be all over the bar, dancing the night away to top 40, electro, funk and hip-hop. Does that make you nervous? Drink specials till 1am should help you get into the groove.

Girlnation
is kickin’ it as usual at midtown club Nation, but tonight things get a little hotter at their Be My Valentine party. Those whipped cream-toting Jell-O shot girls are a gorgeous sight on the night of love.

Henrietta Hudson
‘s got the goods for single gals with V-Day fatigue: Resident DJ Gee won’t be playing a single love song. But even if you’ve sworn off love for now, you know there’s always a shot. Make that a $3 shot! Or make life easier, and help yourself to the $30 open bar, which covers your entry fee and lasts till midnight. The first 200 guests will also get some cute V-Day swag, whether they want it or not.

Lovergirl knows how to throw a great party any Saturday, but their February 14 event will take the cake. It’s Love in the Club Part II, and the club is indeed showing the love to the first 100 women to arrive, who will receive candy hearts and roses. But for the main event, all you need is a pair of lips (and maybe an exhibitionist streak); pucker up for Lovergirl’s Kissing Contest! There will be prizes, but none as valuable as the smooches you’ll see! And who knows, you might just be able to take a pair home with you.

Shescape
‘s got all the single ladies’ numbers at their Sweet & Low Down Valentine’s Soiree. All the unattached get a neon Singles Bracelet so everyone knows who’s available for a hookup—or more. The super sexy club Revel will keep new matches swooning in their covered and heated courtyard. And DJ Francesca and beautiful go-gos keep everyone—single or not—in the mood.
