Michelle Rodriguez Plays it Straight

Star of ‘Lost’ and ‘Girlfight’ concerned about article outing her as a lesbian

Actor Michelle Rodriguez, star of Lost and Girlfight, criticized lesbian magazine Curve for outing her in a recent issue. She wrote on her website in early May that she was not informed of the decision and “had no idea they were using my image to sell magazines.”

Rodriguez, 28, has never come out, but actress Kristanna Loken hinted to The Advocate last November that the two were intimate. Rumors of the actress being a lesbian have surrounded her for years.

In her somewhat convoluted web response to the magazine, Rodriguez acknowledged that she would never shun her “big lesbian following,” although she seemed especially concerned about how coming out could hypothetically affect her career.

”If I were Ellen,” she wrote pointedly, “I may get away with ‘The I’m Gay’ level of exposure, but I’m not a comedian, I like men; (real ones anyway) and I’ve only bin [sic] in this business for 7 years not 20.” Curve, for its part, explains that it did not out Rodriguez in the content of the article.
