Martina Navratilova Chosen for ‘DWTS’

Lesbian tennis superstar paired with Tony Dovolani for show’s 14th season

Say what you want about the frou-frou costumes and questionable celebrities—ABC’s Dancing with the Stars has continued its trend of casting out LGBT contestants in its mid-bogglingly popular seasons. This year, lesbian tennis legend Martina Navratilova, who won 18 singles and 31 doubles Grand Slam titles, joins the cast and will cha-cha with pro dancer Tony Dovolani.

The 55-year-old athlete is a reality show vet, having made her debut on the UK series I’m a Celebrity…Get Me Out of Here! in 2008. She joins Lance Bass (Season 7), Carson Kressley and Chaz Bono (both Season 13) in the field of LGBT DWTS contestants.

And Navratilova may have an edge over her fellow dancers: six of the prior 13 DWTS winners were professional athletes. The new season high-kicks off March 19 on ABC.
