Marriage Market

Going to the chapel? Before you walk down the aisle, check out the ‘Same Love, Same Rights’ LGBT Wedding Expo

When Massachusetts legalized same-sex marriage in 2004, Rainbow Wedding Network had already spent weeks helping couples plan their historic nuptials. The lesbian-owned company began as an online LGBT wedding registry in 2000, but quickly grew into a comprehensive resource directory and expo production firm focusing on LGBT ceremonies.

Since then, RWN has produced more than 50 ‘Same Love, Same Rights’ LGBT wedding expos in 19 states, including four back-to-back expos in California during the summer of 2008, pre-Proposition 8. This August, RWN is heading to New York to celebrate marriage equality in the Empire State and introduce would-be brides to LGBT-friendly vendors.

Each expo presents more than 50 carefully screened businesses with a twofold mission: provide the best products and services for couples on their special day, and support the movement toward equality for the LGBT Americans. Vendors include professional wedding planners, couturiers, venues, florists, stationers, caterers and cake designers, musicians, photographers and much more. Attendees should expect giveaways, samples, fashion shows, performances and keynote speakers in addition to unique and trendy wedding resources.

The NYC area expos take place on the following dates, with additional dates to be announced:

August 4, 5:30-8:30pm: Hilton Garden Inn, 1100 South Avenue, Staten Island

August 6, 12:30-4:30pm: Gotham Hall, 1356 Broadway, Manhattan

August 7, 1:00-4:00pm: Birch Hill, One Celebration Way, Albany

Admission is free with a suggested donation of $5 per person, and tickets are required. Reserve your tickets at SameLoveSameRights.com.
