Mike Huckabee Thinks Queer People Are The Biggest Threat To America

According to Huckabee’s interview in The Christian Post, “redefining gender and sexual identity is the greatest threat to the moral fiber of America.”

It’s been a rough year for the LGBTQ community, and it’s only April. Now, on top of anti-trans legislation, laws that would allow discrimination of LGBTQ people, and an increase in anti-LGBTQ hate crimes, we’re being blamed for, well, everything that’s wrong with America. Thanks Mike Huckabee.

According to Huckabee’s interview in The Christian Post, “redefining gender and sexual identity is the greatest threat to the moral fiber of America.” Huckabee,  the former governor of Tennessee and presidential candidate, is most well-known for his somewhat shaky understanding of constitutional law and his staunch support of Kim Davis, the county clerk who refused to provide marriage licenses for same-sex couples. He is also the dad of Sarah Huckabee-Sanders, Trump’s current press secretary.

Huckabee said in the interview that loosening divorce laws in the 1970s was the beginning of the end for America, as allowing no-fault divorce was when we “first started losing that sense of sacredness of what marriage meant.” Apparently, Huckabee thinks that allowing people to get divorced pretty much created queerness and gay marriage, saying “I’m not really that surprised that same sex-marriage has become in vogue because the Christian Church were the ones who essentially abdicated a strict responsibility about what biblical marriage should look like. Once you’ve destroyed that, why can’t you have any and everything?”

The politician also said that “people are afraid that if they are really biblical, it will alienate people and I think that’s nonsense. Yes, it will alienate some people who are more interested in preserving the lifestyle they have chosen than a lifestyle that will be practical and will work.”

“We need to be bold and say, ‘It doesn’t matter what you feel. It doesn’t matter what you think, or what you believe; what matters is truth,'” Huckabee said.

Huckabee also said in his interview that he wants to create a “variety show” to “provide inspirational stories” but, let’s be real—we all know there’s nothing gayer than a variety show.
